Radio Drama: Staying Well in Camberwell

Cheryl worked with Media for Health to produce a radio drama of 48 episodes that explored the impact of tobacco use and obesity on communities.

The show aired Thursdays at 2 p.m. on WAGG 610 AM (re-airing Fridays at 7 p.m.), and Sundays at 10 p.m. on 98.7 KISS FM in the Birmingham, Alabama area. You can learn more about this initiative at the program’s site, Staying Well in Camberwell.

“Tuxedo Junction” had its world premiere at Birmingham Children’s Theatre on February 8, 2011. The play, which was commissioned by BCT, tells the story of Alabama native and renowned musician Erskine Hawkins.

Ballad at Bard Summerfest

Sunday, July 25th, 7PM, NewShoe and Bard Fisher Center bring a concert reading of The Ballad of Rom and Julz to the Spiegeltent as part of 2010 Summerscape on Bard’s Hudson River campus.

The Ballad of Rom and Julz, a new musical adaptation of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, tells of Rom, a transitioning F to M public school hottie who chases private school tail and deals T to the athletes. When Julz, the reigning queen of Verona Academy, falls hard for Rom, boundaries between public and private, male and female, and love and hate erode. Book by Andrea Lepcio, lyrics by Cheryl L. Davis, music by Brooke Fox, and direction by Barbara Rubin. (Running time, approx one and a half hours).

The glittering Spiegeltent, a wood, mirrored tent from Europe, is located on a green lawn in front of the Frank Gehry designed Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. If you’d like to make a day of Summerscape events, the Sunday schedule features a matinee performance at 3PM of Odon von Horvath’s 1937 play Judgment Day in Theatre Two, a black box theatre in the Fisher Center, and Princess Moxie, a puppet show at 3:30 for children and families in the Spiegeltent. The tent serves dinner from 5:30 until 7 or bring a picnic and choose one of the tables outside near the ice cream cart.

Admission is free to The Ballad and Rom and Julz.

Barnstorming Alabama Jan 28th to 31st

Barnstormer, under the direction of Jerry Dixon will be at the Red Mountain Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama from January 28th to January 31, 2010. This will be the first production for the musical since its initial staged reading at the Lark Theatre Company in Manhattan.
